Reading & Phonics

Here at Banks Road, we have recently introduced a brand new phonics scheme, called Floppy's Phonics.
The DfE made it a statutory requirement that all schools must have a complete, systematic and synthetic programme for teaching phonics; the Floppy’s phonics has been approved by the DfE as it specifically meets the criteria for purpose.

Phonics is a way of teaching children how to read and write. It helps children hear, identify and use different sounds that distinguish one word from another.

Phonics is a primary focus from Nursery right through to year 2 as it underpins the development and progress across other curriculum areas.

Banks Road have invested into all of the Floppy's phonics resources including resources for displays and brand new reading books which follow a sequential order for tracking progress.

Below you will find an information PowerPoint which was used during a Parents Information Evening which will provide further insight into the teaching of phonics in our school.
